Tune up for max power, then turn down power using mic gain control to achieve 50 watts out using 1 khz tone into mic jack.. (5 watts low pwr model) 1 khz and 300hz are set to same level out of audio generator! The 300hz final check is imperative! This will NOT put xtals at same difference from center frequency per manual! Alternate between LSB and USB to see problem. Tune TC501 and TC502 to provide 12.5 (1.25) watts on LSB and USB. Peak T501 on RX and null carrier per manual.\ 2) IF unit PB-1436\ Peak T401 and T402 on RX only. Set CW frequency and level per manual. CW frequency is what determines beat note. 8.9993 is important! Adjust 6 volts on VR 403. \'93S\'94 meter should be set after complete alignment!\ \ 3) Filter Unit PB-1435\ Peak T301, T302, T303 and T304 on RX only. VR301 is IF gain and 12 o\'92clock is fine. Just effects IF noise.\ \ 4) NB Unit PB-1434\ With same 300hz tone, as in step 1, into mic jack set power to 12.5 watts out (hi pwr) or 1.25 watts (low power) models. Using mic gain. As described above and in manual.\ VR201 sets level with processor off and VR202 and VR203 set level when processor is on. Levels do appear to be critical. I set all three per the manual with good results. You can rough them in at 2o\'92clock but you will be wide in your signal but sounds good. \ \ Peak T201, T202 and T208 in Tx for max using 300hz tone. Keep power constant with processor OFF!\ Processor on. Peak T203 and T204 with 300hz per above into mic jack for max power.\ Adjusting noise blanker requires a noise source. i.e. General Electric pulse generator 4EX4A10. Or equivalent. Adjust to 1.5 khz with enough signal to move \'93S\'94 meter up to S-7. Now tune T105, T106 and T107 for lowest \'93S\'94 meter reading with noise blanker on. Turn noise blanker off and \'93S\'94 meter should change a minimum of 3 \'93S\'94 units.\ \ 5) RF Unit PB-1433\ Tune VR101 per manual. Peak T102 and TC101 on receive. 9 mhz trap (very important). Tune per manual.\ \ 6) AM board PB-1556 (very early models did not have provision for AM board).\ Set power to no more than 25% of peak out put to maintain head room for modulation. VR-2001 changes power but will not be constant for all bands! . VR2002 is modulation. 11 - 12 O\'92clock works fine. This should be checked against carrier level on scope if you are serious AM operator. Change frequency of oscillator crystal from 8.999.3 to 9 mhz for better quality AM. TC2001 and TC2002. This WILL disable RTTY!! \ }
